Marie graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah, and jumped right into the wonderful world of charter schools and began her career teaching first grade. Early childhood education is her passion She says, “it lays the foundation from which all other learning and achievement begins”.
After teaching for six years, she was invited to join her previous school’s administrative team, working as an inquiry based learning program coordinator and the Dean of Students. She earned a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Western Governors University. For her capstone project, she studied effective technology use in schools and is excited to bring her love of technology and STEM to Bonneville Academy!
In her charter experience, she helped with the opening of two schools, she is aware of the challenges, but also the immense rewards that await us this coming year. She truly wants to work together as a team-families, teachers, and administration-to provide the best educational experiences for each child.
Marie is married with two children, her daughter is almost six, and will be attending Bonneville Academy this coming year in first grade, her son is three and loves going to preschool. As a family, they love to travel, go to the park, laugh and spend time together.

Middle School Administrator
Mr. Nix began teaching in 1989 after graduating from Western New Mexico University with high honors and a double major in Mathematics and Secondary Education. He has taught math classes ranging from Consumer Math to AP Calculus and Physics. In 1997, after obtaining his Master’s Degree in Educational Management and Development with high honors from New Mexico State University, and relocating to Utah, he spent the next 17 years in school administration, where he had the opportunity to select and supervise some of the best teachers in the state. Over his long career he has educated many thousands of children. Mr. Nix is ecstatic about continuing to teach while serving as an instructional leader. He is anxious to share the beauty of mathematics with the students. “In my classroom, failure is not an option. Success is the ONLY option. Students learn in an intentionally inviting, rigorous, and positive environment. Every leader is a teacher. Every teacher is a leader. Every student is a success.” In his off time, Mr. Nix runs, plays guitar and spoils his grandchildren. He is currently training to qualify for the Boston Marathon in 2018. To achieve that goal, he needs to shave 30 minutes from his best marathon time to date. He is also a devoted family man, married to Lisa for 37 years with three children and four grandchildren who call him Pawpaw!
